Cassiobury Park Spring 1957

Born here in Watford.And lived on the Cassiobury Estate.I started at Chater school in 1945.

To get to school my mother would walk with me across the park  every day rain or shine, so my love of this place started very early on I then went on to Victoria boys school in 1951.I remember that we had to do cross country running through the park on sports lessons but that never put me of my love for the park.I think during those early years my friends and I played and explored every inch of Cassiobury park.

Memories of Cassiobury park after finding this site I remembered some old photos I had found during a move, they were taken in the spring of 1957 when I was testing a new camera. So thought as spring is not far off I would post them for you all.

Love these pictures, more please. Good to see the cafe in the background, the bowling green also in the foreground just visible. Spent so many happy hours in Cassiobury, sometimes kicking a fido ball around with coats as goalposts, then going for a well earned jubilee frozen orange 'triangle' from the cafe to refresh on a hot day. No bully boys, no drugs, sunny summers and good friends. I was told by my grandad that his grandad was head park keeper for Cassiobury and planted the avenue of trees from the gates to the lower park but they don't look that old in the pics. May have been replaced since of course. I was ex.Chater too but a decade later. More pics please!

Have added a few new pics: Grove bridge on the canal, the lime trees, Whippendell woods before the great storm that did so much damage.
